Director Statement

With the world facing unprecedented displacement and wealthier countries struggling to support the influx of migrants, it is crucial to look beyond political debates or headlines and see migrants as humans with hopes and dreams like our own.

Immigrating is not simply a matter of filling out an application, especially for those fleeing tragedy. It requires life-changing sacrifices for survival, often with long-lasting physical and psychological effects.

This film highlights the harsh realities of immigration while focusing on the toll women of color endure. By humanizing Rose and Dora through their personal stories, we hope to shift perspectives, foster compassion, and raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by the Haitian diaspora, including gender-based violence.

Director’s Biography

Marc Jure is an emerging Haitian-Canadian writer and director whose work explores immigration, identity, mental health, and systemic oppression through morally complex, character-driven storytelling. Drawing from his first-generation experiences living in Canada and the United States, his films interrogate belonging and resilience with emotional and visual restraint.

His work has screened at numerous Oscar-qualifying and international film festivals, earning awards and industry recognition for both writing and directing. Marc is currently completing an MFA in Cinematic Arts at Concordia University’s Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema and is actively applying for professional fellowships in screenwriting and directing.
